Rose Frantzen’s ‘Portrait of Maquoketa’

Rose Frantzen's ‘Portrait of Maquoketa’ was on display from Nov 6, 2009 - July 5, 2010 at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. as part of the ‘Portraiture Now Series : Communities’ exhibition and consists of portraits of 180 people from the town of Maquoketa, Iowa.

Anyone who presented themselves to Rose's studio would have their portrait painted in oil during a 4 hour session. The portraits reveal not only a masterful painterly hand but a keen insight into the loves and losses, struggles and strengths of a small Iowa community.

It was a pleasure for Ceres Trust to provide the funding that brought this remarkable work to a wider audience.
