Sol Nation Climate Reality Training

Sol Nation, Dogwood Alliance, and other partners partnered with Climate Reality to get people from North Carolina to Atlanta for the Climate Reality Training. We had significant representation by our circle.

Aloha ‘Āina Fellows Program

‘Āina Momona created an Aloha ‘Āina Fellows Program, a land-based initiative on Molokai that works to engage emerging professionals and grow leadership capacity-building on the Island. Fellows worked with the community to collect data on the potential sale of Molokai Ranch, held informational meetings, gave professional presentations, attended weekly classes, and ran community work days at important, damaged sites in the natural environment.

Beyond Toxics Leads Challenge to Oregon OSHA’s Proposed Rules

In 2017 and 2018, Beyond Toxics led the fight to challenge Oregon OSHA’s proposed new rules on farmworker pesticide protections. Beyond Toxics formed a coalition of Oregon’s farm and forestry worker unions and advocacy organizations, plus labor and social justice groups to force OSHA to reverse course. As a result, Oregon adopted some of the strongest pesticide protection rules for farmworkers in the nation.

Sandhills Cooperation Association’s Mycelium Lab

SCA held a workshop on the income potential of growing mushrooms and the opportunity to form a mushroom growers co-op. This led to a dozen farmers expressing interest in being co-op growers.

Lakeland Citizens for Clean Air, Inc. Public Meeting

We held a public meeting at a local venue to illustrate the problem that industrial biomass is posing to the world via a powerpoint presentation which attracted 40 people.

Student Organic Seed Symposium

The 2017 Student Organic Seed Symposium brought 24 students from across the US together at the University of California, Davis for four days of learning about organic seed breeding, production, end-uses, politics and more.

‘Onipa‘a Kākou Event

‘Āina Momona organized the ‘Onipa‘a Kākou event on January 17, 2018, bringing the broader Hawaiian community together for this event, which raised awareness for several Native Hawaiian issues happening across the state. The day culminated in thousands of people joining in a day of unity to recognize the day of solemn injustice against the Native Hawaiian people 125 years ago.

Good Neighbor Iowa’s Public Education Campaign

Good Neighbor Iowa launched a statewide public education campaign on April 22, 2017 to significantly reduce and eliminate pesticide use in schools, parks, childcare centers, churches, businesses, and all other large expanses of turf in communities throughout Iowa.

Molokaʻi Taro Variety Field Day

An estimated 220 participants attended the field day which included presentations on taro varieties, historic information and stories connecting taro and sweet potato to Molokaʻi, information on the role of taro in health and economic security for local families.
